Grumbling Black Tank

Just dealt with a second toilet paper log jam in our fifth wheel trailer. The issue is the section of drain pipe between the toilet and the tank. The cork has been eliminated but I am hearing a gurgling noise whenever we flush. I believe I got the entire block out , could be mistaken. Is it possible that something got stuck in the vent pipe? I understand that the system operates on gravity but is it essential for air to escape from the vent pipe for the liquid being flushed to enter the tank? Any other thought on the cause of the gurgling?

RE: Dicor lap Seal Removal

I've heard of using heat guns.... I had never used one before, feared damaging the roof material, found I could remove the material easy enough. Mind you I did not use any mineral spirits or other product to remove. Did I leave a small amount of the old sealant, yes, very small amount but it was concealed under the new lap sealant. Also the material I removed was fairly new about 24 months, it may have been softer, more pliable then what you need to remove. If thats the case I'd say more heat instead of chemicals. just my 2 cents.

RE: Dicor lap Seal Removal

Warm day, plastic putty knife and go slowwwwww. Had to do the same thing when I installed a vent fan in the bedroom, took me about an hour, once I got the hang of it.

RE: Toilet Backs up

De-Ja-Vu, Just finished removing my third "clog" in the two years we have owned our fifth wheel trailer. My situation as described by Holiday Rambler is because I can't get my wife and daughters to fill the bowl with water when flushing to make sure there is enough liquid to carry the deposit allllll the way to the tank. When I stay on them it isn't a problem but when they conserve I end up using untold gallons of water to flush the toilet paper clog away. I found some TP disolver at Camping World which seemed to help a great deal this time.

Los Angeles To Vegas Baby

I've heard horror stories about the Baker Grade, any thoughts, advise? I don't think there is any chance for me to be there until noon or so. I have a f-250 with a v-10, 430 gears pulling a 32 foot fifth wheel @ 12,000 lbs.

Reflective Insulation Material

Saw some at Camping World, have heard it will help keep the fiver cooler in the desert heat. My question...Does it make any difference to cut it to fit the window opening and install it on the inside of the rig or do I have to attach it to the exterior? Can anyone estimate aprox. how many degrees reduction this stuff help reduce?

RE: Limited Slip Differential

It is a 2001 f-250 v-10 (6.8) with 430 gears. And yes I did have the additive installed when the rearend was last serviced.

RE: Limited Slip Differential

Thanks everyone. I have been waiting to purchase and install a Mag Hytec differential cover and temp sensor and fluids all at once. I did change the differential fluid about 12-18 months ago. I suspect I pulled enough grades I may have built up some significant heat in the fluid. I always appreciate the experienced answers / suggestion from the forum. Have a great day and again thank you.

Limited Slip Differential

Today while towing my fifth wheel up a short yet steep hill from a dead stop and turning I felt what I can only describe as a racheting effect until I reached the top fo the hill. The hill or climb was about 100 yards in length and even though I had stopped the turn and straightened out about halfway up the hill the ratchet feeling continued to the top. It did not do this the rest of the way home and although I have driven this path a few times before this is the first time I felt the condition. My question could this have been the effect of the limited slip rear differential. The road appeared clear, no loose gravel etc. Thoughts?

Braking Levels

I feel like my brake controller is not operating properly. I have a HR fifth wheel which weighs about 11,800 loaded. I have the unit set at boost level two and yet if I actuate the brakes using the lever I get moderate drag, definitely not enough to stop the combo trailer/truck. I set the control as advertised, stopped, apply lever adjust gain to 6.0, boost level 2 as mentioned. If I set the gain higher when the brakes are applied on city streets / low speed the trailer jerks excessively.

RE: GFI Tripping

I found that the wires coming out of my breaker were loose causing arcing and the gfi to trip as soon as a load was placed on any receptacle in that circuit. I had to cut off about an inch of wire and reconnect due to the burnt insulation.

Direct TV vs Cable

Alright so this not a pure RV topic. We currently have cable ion our stick home and are paying about $55/mo which include Zip, standard local stations along with some foreign language stuff. When we go camping we usually enjoy the fact that the bat wing picks up little and we are then forced to relax. However there are times when either the weather keeps you indoors or you just want to watch the tube. Today a Direct TV advertisement caught my eye.... It looks as though they are cutting the rates by $18 a month for period of time to get you used to it, however even at the increased rate it will be equal to the cable. I am also thinking I can get a dish and whatever else (what is whatever else?) and take it with me camping. I know bunches of you do it and I really like the pretty blue light some of them have. Is it equal or close or am I going to be paying double for what I have now?

RE: closet weight police

Unfortunetly I am in much the same place, 3/4 ton 2006 HR Savoy fifth wheel max 12500. I am actually at 11,700 "loaded" but the pin weight came in at 2900# I leave lots of room on the road in front of me, don't exceed 55 mph, air bags, full banks, 430 gears. I've pulled the Grapevine a number of times as it is 2 miles north of home. I'm not bragging nor justifying my set up but reality is I can not afford a new truck payment, especailly a 1 ton dually oil burner.

RE: Fantastic Fan common sense wiring?

The real fun is up on the roof. Be careful not to gouge the roof membrane, work slow get as much of the old sealing tape off, don't use any solvents to remove excess or remaining tape. Warm sunny day works best as the caulking and tape will soften up better. I mounted one in the bedroom tapping into the light wasn't that difficult, wife thinks I'm handy now, not sure if that is good or bad.

RE: DSI Water Heater fails on gas

My 10 gal Atwood did the same thing two months before the end of the two year warranty. Turned out to be the board. Atwood had it replaced under warranty.
